Tip of the Week – Mosaic paper piecing

The top third of this card was done using a mosaic paper piecing technique.  First cut three pieces of coordinating patterned paper all the same size.  I used a 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch piece.  Lay all three pieces on top of each other and then using your paper trimmer cut random angled cuts.  Keep your paper stacked together for each cut.   You may need to use temporary adhesive to help you keep the papers stacked together.  Don’t make your cuts so small that you can’t reassemble them.   Then piece together your mosiac with three different piles.  Take a different pattern from one of the stack of cuts and put that next to the first pattern.  Alternate patterns so you don’t have any of the same paper next to each other.   Now you have enough mosaics to make 3 cards.

To add a little “bling” to the cuts I used my embossing pen and ruler and drew lines between the cuts, sprinkled with gold embossing powder and then heated.

This technique works so well with the Close To My Heart Level 2 paper packs since you get 6 coordinating patterns in one pack.
