New Product Highlight-Newsprint Rub-ons

Don’t fear the Rub-on!

In the Spring/Summer 2011 Idea Book is a little product called the Newsprint Rub-Ons.  They are sold on page 118 and are $8.95 for a pack of 8 sheets which include the alphabet, numbers and puncuation.

I wanted to share with you the packaging on these.  I think this is a great way to package rub-ons.   Just brilliant!  So I thought I would share with you since the Idea Book doesn’t say anything about how great this new packaging is.  The outside of the package looks like a large matchbook cover.

Then when you  open it up it has strips of letters that you can remove as you use them to expose the new letters underneath.  I’m not sure how many letters there are of each one but it looks like a ton.  Isn’t this great?

They were SOOOO easy to use.  I like it so much better than the long sheet.  You don’t have to deal with a ton of tiny pieces if you cut from the long sheets or you don’t have any excess transfer from other rub-ons near it.  This is a brilliant way to package rub ons!  I don’t fear rub-ons anymore!

Recipe:  Newsprint rub-ons, Wings paper, Wings pleated ribbon, Black mini-medleys (button brads), Scallop punch, black stamp pad.

Tip of the Month – Simple 3-D paper flowers

I’m on a kick right now where I like to make paper flowers for my paper projects.   Even if there is snow in the forecast there are still flowers in my life,  if only they are on my scrapbook pages and not in my  garden.  These flowers are very easy to make, look cute and are just slightly 3-D to give some depth to your scrapbook pages or cards.

To make:  Punch or cut two circles.  One slightly larger than the other.  Hold the two circles together, the smaller one centered on top over the larger circle.  Using your micro scissors take very small pie shaped cuts into the circles, being careful to not cut all the way to the center of the circle.  Then slightly offset your top circle over your bottom circle and adhere.  I added a button on top and some 3-d foam tape on bottom.

Here’s the whole layout:

There is a surprise behind the small photos which are mounted on 3-D foam tape.   I tucked in some tags with some adorable pictures of my sweet niece.

Recipe:  Miracle paper pack, A Hop stamp set, Token alphabet, 1 1/4 circle punch, ( 1 1/2 circle punch – nonCTMH), Scallop punch, Kraft color ready borders, Natural buttons, Colonial white waxy flax, desert sand stamp pad, Foam tool, 3-D foam tape, Sweet Leaf stamp pad, colonial white ribbon & brads.

Looking for a retired Close To My Heart paper?

You can find it at Studio J!   This happened to me recently when I was trying to complete a cruise album that I had started with Moon Doggie paper.  So instead I turned to Studio J (Close To My Heart’s online scrapbooking product.)  All of the Close To My Heart retired paper from the past 4 or so years are still available in digital form!  Read all about Studio J here and here.
Now give it a try yourself!  It’s free to try out!  Plus, this month we have a special for Studio J members.  Purchase 9 layouts and receive your 10th layout free!

Here’s a few of the layouts I made in the Moon Doggie in Studio J:

And now here’s a few layouts I made with Moon Doggie with paper:

The only difference is the Studio J logo & tagline on the bottom of these photos.  (Your layouts will come shipped to you without the logo & tagline.  These are the jpeg images that are made for sharing on the web.)    I spent many hours making the paper layouts and just an hour to make the 3 Studio J layouts.

Recipe:  Studio J, Moon Doggie paper pack (retired), Rustic Alphabet, Indian Corn Blue stamp pad, twill ribbon, Basic buttons, tan hemp, Extreme Happiness stamp set (retired), White embossing powder, Rest & Relaxation stamp set (retired) Cranberry stamp pad, Sunflower stamp pad, Olive stamp pad, Desert sand stamp pad and others.

Tip of the Month: Zinnia paper flowers

The tip of the week was a bit too ambitious of me to continue with a new tip every week.  But a tip of the month certainly seems doable for me.  ; – ) So without further ado, here’s the tip of the month:  Zinnia paper flowers.  I’m certainly no expert on flower species but to me this type of paper flower looks like a zinnia.  This flower creation is quite easy.

Here’s a layout I made recently with the Wings paper pack from Close To My Heart.  It is a modified version of a layout from the Magic Scrapbook Program, also from Close To My Heart.  These photos totally cracked me up of my son playing around one day pretending to be a “working man.”  He put on the shirt, slacks and tie by himself and grabbed his dad’s suitcase for a business trip.  He is such a character so the title “Be You” really fit him.

Close up of flower:

To make the flowers:

Cut a strip of paper 1″ x 12.”  Then cut a series of slits into the paper the entire length.  Roll around a pencil or a round tool like a piercing tool.  Don’t roll too tightly.  Secure the end with a glue dot.   Gently pull the flower off the piercing tool keeping it whole.  Gently push the slits down to “open” up your flower.  Sponge ink to the “flower petals.”  Add a button to the center and secure with glue dots.

Recipe:  Wings Paper Pack, Friendship Alpha Large, Dreams come true stamp set, Take a Picture stamp set, black ink, black mini-medleys, sweet leaf stamp pad & glue dots.
